80PROOF lite rocked the Oz Bar this past Saturday 9/19/09 - and the show came out pretty well. It was Stacy's birthday (one of our favorite groupies) and it was a stripped down funky bluesy rockin' affair. We did a few new songs for the Oz Bar - the 80PROOF version of 'Sweet Home Alabama' redone as 'Sweet Home Houston' where the women are so fine, as well as showing the Oz Bar we can rock Texas with some Tush just like ZZ Top.
Special thanks to Mike for filling in on drums.
There were some Oz Bar virgins in the bar - and 80PROOF was certainly glad to pop that cherry and make them non-virgins no more. I'm sure they'll be back for another 80PROOF show.
Looking forward to seeing all our fans next time.

Can't Let a Little Rain Stop the Oz Bar Party
Not even Floodin' down in Texas can stop the 80 PROOF party. A special thanks to all those that came out to Oz Bar last night to check out the show. We appreciate all our fans and we continue to recruit more every gig.
We brought out our unique light and stage show to the Oz Bar and the crowd loved it. If you haven't seen our show - we entertain the audience (and it shows). We like to think of it as bringing the rock arena experience to your local bar, club, pub, or private party. Other bands can stand and play music - that's fine and dandy. But maybe an 80 PROOF show isn't for everyone:
1) You get see Jason dance, move, jump off the stage, jump off tables, jump off balconies, gyrate all while mesmerizing the crowd with his voice.
2) Also doing duty on vocals, sexy Sally sizzling the audience with her voice and dance moves as well - not to mention the outfits.
3) Rudy shredding the guitar - whether it's a funky number like Hot Stuff or Funkytown or bringing back the guitar god himself, Eddie Van Halen. You'd swear you were back in the 80's in the arena thousands packed with screaming girls and guys wishing they could play guitar.
4) Joey pounding away on the drums = keeping the back beat = the backbone of the band. It could be a simple blues rock beat ala Hard to Handle, heavy metal thunder ala Talk Dirty to me or Jump or even some funky ole soul like Billie Jean, then he's got you covered with the sticks. Not to mention - he also plays keyboards as well.
5) Jeff (sexy legs) on the keys. Might have to rename him 'velvet touch' as he works the ivory. Jeff shines during a few songs - Cars, Once Bitten Twice Shy, Call Me, Take on Me among others. He's also been seen doing double duty playing drums during a couple of songs. We're waiting for him to get a keytar so he can rock out with the guitar players at the front of the stage - rumors are it's coming soon. So watch out.
6) Chaka (gonna rock ya) on bass. He's nowhere and everywhere. He's onstage - he's offstage talking to chicks, working the crowd - there he is by the drummer - nope he's out front rocking with Rudy - oops missed him - he's over rockin' out by Jason and Sally now. Delivering cool basslines that have women swooning. His favorite saying I hear is "I'm the bass player. I'm hear to make the booty wiggle and the titties jiggle." I think that sums him up pretty well.
7) Danny Divar - the man behind the curtain running the sound, making sure we sound our best. He can mix the sound, run the spotlight (yes, Virginia 80PROOF is the only cover band in Houston bold enough to really bring a spotlight to there show) and he's an excellent vocalist as well. He's been known to come out on stage and sing a few songs with the band. He's a great person and 80 PROOF is that much better for him helping us with our mix.
So we understand if you can't handle an 80 PROOF show - only the best 80's band experience in Houston.

80 PROOF at Wild Wing Cafe 04.11.09
80 PROOF rocks the Wild Wing Cafe once more.
Not sure what was in the air, but another exciting, fun-filled crazy night at the Wild Wing Cafe in Katy. We were celebrating Margaret's birthday all night. She's a wonderful 80 PROOF fan, that we love and appreciate all the support she gives each show.
We did have a couple of surprises up our sleeves:
1) Joey Wyatt - playing keyboard on Sharp Dressed Man along with singing Paranoid by Black Sabbath. The man is truly multi-talented. Can't wait to see what he pulls out next.
2) Jeff 'pretty legs' Boudier played drums on Sharp Dressed Man. I hear he also knows how to play bass guitar - maybe Chaka will be playing keyboard in one song next. Or dueling bass guitars.
3) Another freestyle moment - Jason whipping out freestyle rap over a blues inspired beat from Joey, smooth bassline from Chaka, funky guitar from Rudy, and silky smooth keys from Jeff.
4) Chaka 'gonna rock ya on the bass' did have the girls in a frenzy when he played without a shirt for songs in the latter half of the third set.
5) Digger also came up and sang I Want a New Drug by Huey Lewis. He continues to impress - so far he's joined the band for Rebel Yell and Sharp Dressed Man as well.
6) Sally giving her autograph to two lucky fans.
You never know what you're gonna see at an 80 PROOF show.

Hot for Teacher
"Hot for Teacher" night at Wild Wing Cafe
We always have a great time at the Wild Wing Cafe, but this past Saturday was a very special night. Our focus was on all of the teachers who work hard every day, and this was our chance to show them our appreciation for all that they do. We were on our best behavior that night (for the most part), although some of us deserved to be
sent to detention before the night was over! ;)
We introduced our newest stage prop that night: raised platforms for the band members to step up on while performing. Rudy and Chaka used them throughout the night to take the spotlight, and Jason especially made the most of them, leaping from one to the other--and then right off the stage! Sally and Jeff even jacked one to dance on while the rest of the band cranked out a rowdy rendition of Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher."
Props to Joey for coming up with this idea and making it happen!
There was also a bachelor and bachelorette party going on that night. They had huge blow-up dolls that were quite distracting. Stacy couldn't help herself from participating in the entertainment. ;)
Special thanks to all the teachers; 80 PROOF fans; Digger for taking
pics; Stacy, Tennille, Margaret, Sheila, and Nicole for just lookin'
hot; and Andrew who helped out with lights and set-up. You guys are
awesome and we appreciate you all!
Until next time....

80 PROOF wedding virgins no more.
80 PROOF just rocked their first wedding last weekend and it was a blast. Annie and Chou after having seen us play at the Lounge knew they wanted first class entertainment at the wedding and we didn’t disappoint. This was also a first for us as the guys were dressed out coat and ties – a break from our traditional 80’s wear. Another addition was bass player Chaka doing double duty as DJ and rockin’ the bass. So if you need a band + the additional services of a DJ to play while the band takes a break don’t hesitate to call 80 PROOF.

MyBar Valentine Gig 02.14.09
It was a very special Valentine's show at My Bar this past Saturday night. The rain didn't stop 80 PROOF or our fans from showing up and having a great time! The room was filled with Valentine's Day decorations, but it was the people that got into the spirit by wearing lots of hot pink and bright red!
The drinks were good, the chicks were hot, the dance floor was packed, and the music was totally 80's! We added a couple of love songs especially for the occasion, one being "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. Digger came up and sang my favorite love song, "Talk Dirty to Me" by Poison ;), and my girl Tennille sang "I Hate Myself for Lovin' You" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Ah yes! Special shout out to Stacy, who looked super HOT with her red vest, and all the 80 PROOF fans who make every night a special one for us!!!!

Road Trip to Dallas
02/07/09
We met at the studio Saturday morning to load up, then drove the 4
hours to Dallas and got to UT-D about 5pm. The place was medium-sized, very nice, and full of eighties decorations! We got done setting up about 8pm then rushed back to the hotel to get ready for the big Homecoming dance. As soon as we got back, we headed straight for the bar to get our early fix. Well, it turned out that
we were in a dry area and the best thing on the drink menu was tea!
What a bummer!!! I guess that explains why we saw so many underage kids there. One thing was for sure though, they all loved the eighties! They dressed up eighties and even had the dance moves down as well! It was awesome!
It was great to see some familiar faces far from home. Swarup and Soumya came out to see us, and we even had a few of Jeff's friends from Dallas come out to see us as well. It turns out that Jeff used to attend UT-D and even has family in the area! We met his twin brother--not literally, but they look so much alike it's pathetic!!!
We started playing at 8:45pm and stopped at about midnight. After the show, we went to get some drinks and food and hung out at the hotel. The next morning, we were dragging feet, but we made it back to Houston safe and sound, ready for our Valentine's Day show coming up this weekend!!!

Oz Bar 01.31.2009
We had so much fun at the OZ Bar this past Saturday! We didn't
realize how much we missed that place until we finally got there! It
was nice to see our old friends, plus the 80 PROOF POSSE was there,
and they always make our shows that much sweeter!!!
Some of us decided to try a new look that night, but nothing tops what
Rudy wore. OMG!!! All I can say is that Rudy is probably the only one
that can pull off something like that...no one else! ;) Jeff was
particularly popular with the girls that night. It could be his new
DURAN DURAN look. They were all over him, messing with his
hair...seriously! Look at some of the pics and you'll see what I'm
talking about! He was the man that night! Well, Chaka still out
beats him, but he was very close!
I was wearing my pleather pants that look really tight, but they're
really not, and Jason was wearing the best looking shirt out there
(one I gave him for X-mas). ;) John, who filled in for Joey while
Joey's in the valley, really got into the eighties thing too. He had
the cool eighties hair and a bright orange tie to go with his black
silk shirt. Pretty hot! After all, the 80's are all about color!
We were feeling really good that night and when we feel good, Jason
tends to do his thing and we follow. He busted out with a cool-ass
freestyle, which was all a spur-of-the-moment thing. It's crazy how
he can pull off crap like that live! But that's not it! Jeff came
out of nowhere and backed him up by adding some flavor from Usher's
"Yeah Yeah Yeah" on keys, Chaka and Sally incorporated "Rapture" by
Blondie in the mix, and Rudy was firing up his guitar with some cool
riffs while John in the back held a funky groove. It was freakin'
awesome! It was our thanks to OZ and all our fans!
I also have to send a shout out to Tennille and Digger. Although we
are not a karaoke band, we tend to let very special people on stage
with us once in a while to show them our appreciation for all they do
for us. Tennille, who is a music teacher, got up on stage with me on a
couple of songs and added some awesome harmonies!!! She is truly
talented. Thanks Tennille!!! Digger also came up and sang "Rebel
Yell." Uh-huh, got it all on camera too!
Thanks for a fun night and we'll see you guys again after our Dallas road trip!

2009 Starts off with a Bang at Wild Wing Cafe
Finally! After a LONG month off we FINALLY had our first show of 2009!
Of course, we kicked it off at our favorite place in Katy, the Wild
Wing Cafe! The place was jam packed with all our friends/fans and a
lot of people who hadn't seen us before as well. I have to say that we
made a lot of new fans that night too. :)
It was a fun and crazy night! Joey drove 8 hours to get to the gig
that night and was pretty tired, but once he got on stage it was a
different story! His adrenaline kicked in and he totally rocked it!
Sally had about 10 shots that night compliments of the fans in the
audience. ;) I'm surprised she made it through the night considering
how small she is! But she rocked it as always and gave an awesome
show! Jeff sported out his new Duran Duran look which was pretty cool.
Chaka was being Chaka that night flirting with the ladies in the
audience who always show him much love. Lucky bastard! Of course, we
can't forget about Rudy who was caught being in the "moment" during
his Eddie Van Halen guitar solo! For those of you who were there, you
know what I'm talking about! Jason was looking fly
for a white guy with his shades and red tie! He worked up the crowd
and had them chanting "80 PROOF, 80 PROOF, 80 PROOF...."
We had our friend Digger come up on stage with us to sing "Sharp
Dressed Man" by ZZ Top. You should have seen him....he walked in
looking like a total rockstar that we just had to get him on stage to
jam with us and that he did! It was actually Digger's first time ever
seeing us perform live and I am proud to say that he is now a new fan.
:) We also have to give a shout out to our good friend Stacy for
hosting the cool after-party, along with Margaret, Tenille, and Andi
for hangin' out with us till the wee hours!

Last shows for 2008
12/19/08, My Bar
It was a crazy weekend starting at My Bar which was the second time 80 PROOF performed there, but my first time. The guys referred to me as the "My Bar Virgin" all freakin' night! ;) We had such a great time with all of our friends there showing their support. We've gained quite a following since our Houston Press nomination. The sound that night was unbelievable too! It always helps to have a good soundperson behind the board adding that extra pump. He added some cool effects to our vocals and the drums sounded phenominal! Thanks a lot to Mike that night for running our sound.
The show was incredible and the people were loving it. Chaka was the lucky man that night though with a bra being thrown at him from one of the pretty girls in the audience. ;)
We tried out a new song we had never rehearsed as a whole and it rocked! Thanks to everyone who bought the band shots....lemon drops are the bomb! I felt it during the 3rd set and who knows what kind of outlandish things I said or did during that set, but it was all in fun! The crowd loved us and that's all that matters. Our last song of the night was Paranoid by Black Sabbath featuring our drummer Joey on vocals. He totally rocked it! What a good way to end the night!
12/20/08, Beach Bums Bar
Okay! This was our second time at this place and I guess because of the HOLIDAYS, there weren't as many people as we anticipated. Danny Divar filled in for Jason with only 2 practices before the show. He did a lot better than everyone expected and kicked some serious butt! It took some time for he and I to feel the natural chemistry Jason and I have, but towards the end, we were definately feeling it! The crowd that night ( if you want to call it that ) was hard to read. We couldn't tell if they were enjoying the show or not, but after the show was over, everyone came up to us to say what a good band we were and how much they enjoyed it. They even bought us two rounds of shots. Yummy Yum Yum!
